I told you in February that South Landing Fitness would be rebranding and expanding, and they have done just that. Shane and Chrissy Glarow rebranded the business as Landing Health and Performance and doubled their physical space to 6,000 square feet to better serve their clients.

In my first interview with the Landing Health and Performance team, I was struck by their overall mindset about fitness and health. Even though they have a gym, they are not only concerned about their customer’s physical health and wellness. They believe that fitness and health are holistic and not reserved for your time at the gym. They began the renovation with the long-term goal of changing the conversation around health and supporting clients’ goals around global health. This physical expansion allows them to build on what they have been offering through fitness classes and customized training programs, but on a more holistic level to continue to change the conversation around health in our community.

The renovation took several weeks to complete. Pannell Construction worked on the project from start to finish. While the front of the building was being renovated, operations and classes continued as normal in the back. When the front was finished, they moved all the equipment to the front to make room for the rear. They only had to close for a few days while the flooring was finished. Now that both spaces are open, they have doubled the square footage and bathroom/shower facilities for their customers.

In addition to adding physical space, they added new staff members, bringing their team to 10 people. Each is invested in growing the conversation about health and its appearance. Shane emphasized that he wants to be part of a larger conversation around health, meaning that health is about more than time spent in the gym. Health is holistic and includes our mental and emotional well-being, physical fitness and nutritional well-being.

During the holidays, we’re all tempted to overindulge and enjoy all the treats around us. Shane emphasized that doing this doesn’t take away from the time and health commitment you’ve made for the rest of the year. Every positive choice we make for our mind and body is a step toward health, whether it’s going to bed earlier, taking more rest at lunch, or drinking water instead of soda. Spending time in the gym and moving your body is valuable and beneficial to our health, but missing a day (or week) shouldn’t set you back and beat you.

Shane and Chrissy feel that the larger footprint of the business allows them to offer semi-private, group and one-on-one courses within their reach. They are now releasing a better product, the product they always believed they could produce. They hear more from their members that they want to be there for their grandchildren and want to be able to go every day without limiting their daily activities and about fewer numbers. They see this as a positive shift in the health of our community and one they hope to focus more members on.
